BaltiQC
European Baltic Quantum-Communication Link
Our Focus
Strategic and sensitive information at state and defense levels has become one of the main assets in the international playground. In this context, Information Security plays a key strategic role. Quantum technologies offer some of the most promising solutions to keep information secure, taking advantage of quantum effects to identify and protect data from eavesdropping at levels that were not possible with classical tools, also.
Technologies such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) help to share cryptographic keys in a tamper-proof way using quantum protocols, while Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNGs) can help to generate truly unpredictable keys. Furthermore, Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) can be used for authentication and distribution of keys over supplementary classical channels.
The goal of the present initiative is to establish a network of collaborative partners from Industry, including Startups, SMEs and beyond, and key research institutions to jointly integrate and implement a strategic Quantum-Secure Communication Link for the Baltic region, involving the regional EU states and regions.
The demonstrator targets at first to connect key hubs in Germany, Poland, and Lithuania, such as Berlin, Poznań, Warsaw, Gdańsk, and Vilnius, integrating fibre-based and free-space QKD communication.
This demonstrator should be security oriented and should remain active for testing, evaluation and learning in the years to come, providing a strong platform for the European secure and quantum communication infrastructure as main strategic contribution, strengthening regional sovereignty
